Brilliance Electric Vehicle at Shanghai Auto Show

The Brilliance EV concept has two electric motors which are powered by lithium-ion batteries. It can run on one motor at speeds up to 25mph, with a range of around 80 miles.

The EV takes about 8 hours from a household plug, or just 30 minutes from a special fast charger. Brilliance claims that this battery can be hooked to a 220V charger, with a “Quick Charge” feature to replenish the pack to about 80% in just 30 minutes.

Spy photos: Zhengzhou Nissan MPV on production

Sources reported that Zhengzhou Nissan will  launch new MPV and will debut it on the coming Shanghai Auto Show, besides, we got the latest spy photos of this new comer.

The new model is positioned as a mini MPV and based on the Nissan Serena. In 2009, Zhengzhou Nissan will launch 3 new models including Nissan Cabstar, Dongfeng Economic MPV and Nissan Intelligentize SUV.

Lotus to debut 5 new cars

Sources reported that Lotus to debut 5 new models on the coming Shanghai auto show, includes 2 new roadsters which listed on UK not long ago, a new MPV and a new hybrid car.

Sources also reported that Youngman Automobile will continue corporating with Lotus and will launch 6 new models in the coming years. Youngman Lotus will continue to produce own-brand models, prodcution lines including mini car, compact car, medium-sized MPV etc.

Porsche Panamera to show off at Shanghai auto show

Sources reported that Porsche will unveil its latest model Panamera on the coming Shanghai Auto Show.

Porsche Panamera is a four-door, four-seat luxury sedan. It is front-engined and rear wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on top versions. The new model is set to be on sale in China in the fourth quarter of the year.

Porsche SE is the world’s leading manufacturer of luxury automobiles.

BAIC Foton to produce pure electric car by the year end

March 6, BAIC Foton spokesman told reporters that Foton will produce pure electric car by the end of this year. The new model uses lithium battery and will based on the Mini car that Foton have launched last year.

Foton spokesman introduced that the new pure electric car can travel 100km – 150km for a single recharge, and 4 – 5 hours would accomplish a full recharge.

Chinese automaker may be the buyer of last resort for Ford Volvo

Ford Motor needs money and is almost certainly willing to sell Volvo to add cash to its balance sheet. A Chinese car company may be willing to oblige. According to The Times, “Geely Automotive, a Chinese car manufacturer, has appointed NM Rothschild to advise on a possible bid for loss-making Volvo.”

China is one of the few places with potential buyers of Western auto company assets. The central government can make capital available since China has built up a tremendous balance sheet of its own after having years of trade surpluses.

Because of the wealth of the Chinese government, it can afford to play a long-term game that other governments or private enterprises cannot. It may be willing to wait out the revival of the car markets in the US, UK, and EU and be one of the few that has enough capacity and capital to quickly meet the demand of an improving economic environment. Even if it takes two or three years, China has the time and the money.
