Reported by Beijing Times, BYD said yesterday that it has decided to sell its F3DM electric car to individual customers from September on. Before September, the F3DM sedan is sold to corporate customers only.

During the auto show in Shenzhen, BYD’s new electric car E6 came out again, according to BYD’s presentation, this new model is a five-seat model and the chassis was developed by BYD itself. Nevertheless, E6 is a pioneer in environmental protection models which uses the pure power-driven method.
It’s also reported that E6 will be officially launched in the second half of this year, the pre-sale price would be around 200, 000 YUAN. E6 would be the second environmental protection model after BYD launched its hybrid model (DM) last year.

Not long after QQme’s launches, Chery plans to launch two more hybrid cars this year to tap into the growing hybrid car market.
Chery would launch A5 this year and A3 in 2010. Also a Tiggo-based hybrid SUV model and a QQ-based pure electric model are under development though no timeline was set for their launch, by reported.
All of the electric motors and hybrid systems on these future models are developed by supplier Ricardo, a world leading automotive consultance firm employing over 1,700 people all around the world.
This makes Chery the 2nd Chinese manufacturer to unveil an electric car after BYD, who unveiled its plug-in hybrid BYD F3DM in December 2008.

This year, BYD moved to the main floor of the Detroit auto show and it did catch more attentions than before. Besides F3DM, E6 should be another bright point.
The E6 is an all-electric, five-passenger people mover that has a range of 250 miles, can be fully charged in about 10 hours by plugging into a standard household outlet, and takes only 10 minutes to charge to 50 percent capacity.
As one of several Chinese automakers hoping to break into the U.S. market, BYD may use the F3DM (for Dual Mode) as part of its opening salvo. BYD and Brilliance will have main floor exhibit space at Cobo Center for the 2009 Detroit auto show. To exhibit cars on the main floor is the first time for Chinese automakers, and F3DM is the first Chinese-made plug-in hybrid electric car.
