The upcoming BYD K-Car has been recently spotted online ahead of its official debut in Japan. Designed mainly for the Japanese market, this all-electric model embraces the popular “boxy” design that maximizes interior space and practicality. It is set to make its first public appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month.

The K-Car features a short front and rear overhang paired with a long wheelbase, providing ample cabin space while leaving room for a larger battery pack. Its exterior highlights include a floating roof, triangular A-pillar windows, and sliding rear doors for easy passenger access. Circular headlights and taillights give the car a playful, retro-modern look, reminiscent of China’s third-generation Wuling Hongguang MINI EV. The third-row side windows are uniquely styled, adding a distinctive touch to the compact silhouette.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel with heating functionality, a combination of an instrument cluster and a floating central touchscreen, and small triangular windows on the front A-pillars. The front seats appear to adopt a bench-style layout that spans the width of the car, enhancing the sense of space.
Thanks to its lightweight design, the K-Car is expected to be powered by a 20 kWh blade battery, offering an estimated WLTC range of 180 km. Under the traditional CLTC measurement, this range is more than adequate for typical urban commuting needs.
